The National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) in Peru is conducting a project to sow germplasm of oca, olluco, and mashua crops in the Lloqueta community, Quispicanchi province, Cusco region, in an effort to enhance the genetic quality, nutritional value, yield, pest resistance, and climatic adaptability of these native crops. The institute aims to boost the economic profitability of small and medium farmers, improve the competitiveness of agricultural production, and conserve agro-biodiversity through its research and development of new agricultural technologies. INIA has over 14,500 samples in its collection and operates 48 germplasm banks across 17 regions of Peru, preserving and valuing various crops, alpacas, and llamas.
