Daikundi province in Afghanistan has seen a significant increase in almond production, with farmers harvesting over 25,000 metric tons, an 18% increase from the previous year, due to increased rainfall and water availability. This is welcomed by farmers as almonds are their main source of income. However, they also request the government to provide a suitable market, processing facilities, and repair the poor roads, which increase transportation costs. The province also faces drought and natural disasters, which have affected other fruit trees. The Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock department of Daikundi, along with non-governmental organizations, have supported the farmers this year. Women in the province play a significant role in almond harvesting and are urged to have supportive programs from the government.
