(Danyang=Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Hyeong-woo = On the 27th, North Chungcheong Province's Danyang County announced that it will restrict the provision of subsidies to farmers who cause forest fires by illegally burning agricultural by-products.
The county, after consulting with a senior counsel and the Legislation and Treaty Bureau, received an opinion that the content could be stipulated in an ordinance, and thus revised the "Danyang County Agricultural Subsidy Operation Ordinance."
The newly added clause stipulates that agricultural subsidies may not be provided, or may be reduced or given lower priority, to subsidy recipients who burn agricultural by-products and waste without a valid reason, causing forest fires.
A county official said, "This revision of the ordinance is intended to inform farmers of the risks of burning agricultural by-products and to raise their awareness of forest fire prevention."
