Russia is experiencing a rise in demand for fish, driven by a robust domestic fishing industry, imports from friendly countries, and a shift towards healthier eating habits. The country is among the top four producers of aquatic bioresources and is expected to reach a total catch of 5 million tons this year. The Fish Union is advocating for each Russian citizen to consume more than 28 kg of fish annually. Both the catering sector and retail trade have noted a surge in demand for various fish types, such as horse mackerel and salmon, due to their taste, affordability, and novelty. The price of domestic fish has also decreased, making it more appealing to consumers.
