On July 15, Jacob Jensen, Denmark's Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Fisheries, presented the main agricultural priorities of the Danish Presidency of the Council to the European Parliament's Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development. Denmark holds the rotating Presidency until the end of 2025. According to Jensen, the Presidency will focus on easing the administrative burden for farmers, continuing to promote the green transition, and improving animal welfare. A key priority will be concluding the ongoing negotiations on the simplification package for the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), while also starting discussions on the CAP framework beyond 2027. Several MEPs expressed concerns about fair conditions for EU farmers in the context of the Mercosur Agreement and animal welfare standards.
