The international garlic market has faced significant challenges since 2020 due to the Covid-19 logistics crisis and reduced export volumes from major producers. Although there were signs of recovery by 2023, climatic issues, particularly in Peru, have further impacted the market. In 2024, Peru's garlic exports plummeted by 65% in volume and 59% in value, with Arequipa's production hit hard by water shortages and high temperatures. Despite a difficult first half of the year, projections for the latter part of 2024 are optimistic, expecting a 10% growth in volume and 4% in value. Internationally, shipments to North and South America have decreased, with Mexico and the United States seeing the most significant declines.
