The international garlic market has faced significant challenges since 2020 due to the Covid-19 logistics crisis and a shift by major exporters to more profitable crops. By 2023, the market began to recover, but climatic issues in Peru, especially in Arequipa, severely impacted garlic crops, leading to a substantial drop in export volumes and value by 2024. Despite a 65% contraction in volume and 59% in value, there is optimism for growth in the latter part of the year. International shipments to North and South America have decreased, with Mexico and the United States experiencing notable declines.
