Ecuador's shrimp exports in 2021 saw a significant increase, with a volume of nearly 842 thousand tons and a value of over 5 billion USD, marking a 24% increase in volume and a 41% increase in value compared to the previous year. This represents a doubling of shrimp exports since 2016 and a tripling since 2013, achieving the best results in the past nine years. The US and EU markets saw the first surpassing of 1 billion USD in export turnover, with increases in shrimp exports to these markets by 54% and 24% respectively compared to 2020. Despite challenges in exporting to China, it remained Ecuador's largest shrimp import market in 2021. In 2022, Ecuador plans to increase production by developing more intensive shrimp farming models and producing value-added products and peeled shrimp to further boost exports to the US, EU, and other markets.
