Egypt holds the lead in the supply of artichokes to the Italian market

Egypt continues to dominate the imported artichoke market in Italy, EastFruit reports. The volume of supplies of Egyptian artichokes, fresh and frozen, to the Italian market, depending on the season (conditionally July-June), varies from 9 to 15 thousand tons. Egyptian exporters have the most serious position in the frozen segment, while competition in the fresh segment remains much more serious. Italy is the largest producer of artichokes in the world with annual production volumes from 370 to 390 thousand tons. However, its own harvest is not enough to satisfy the demand of Italian consumers, and Italy simultaneously ranks second in the world in the import of fresh artichokes.
