The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation in Egypt has announced the commencement of the citrus export season for the 2024-2025 period, with the first shipments already underway following an agreement with the Citrus Committee and the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine. Citrus is a crucial crop in Egypt, leading in both area and production volume, with exports this year reaching 2.28 million tons. The fruit is renowned for its long shelf life and high nutritional value, including vitamin C and essential minerals. To boost citrus exports, especially to the European Union, the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine has reduced the additional testing percentage on citrus fruits from 30% to 20%. The government is also taking steps to expand agricultural areas through projects like the New Delta Project and is working to enhance food safety and laboratory quality by developing reference laboratories and sub-labories, with 40 laboratories obtaining international accreditation.
