The 2023/2024 passion fruit harvest in Santa Catarina experienced a 35% production decline, totaling 45 thousand tons, due to adverse weather conditions from the El Niño phenomenon. Average productivity dropped to 20-25 tons per hectare from 35 t/ha the previous year, mainly due to excessive rain and lack of light, which worsened bacteriosis spread. However, a technological reference unit in São João do Sul achieved 47.7 t/ha through advanced practices. The gross production value was estimated at R$153 million, with prices between R$3.30 and R$3.50 per kilo. Santa Catarina remains Brazil's third-largest passion fruit producer, with the southern region accounting for 90% of the cultivated area.
