China has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into certain dairy products imported from the European Union, effective from August 21, 2024, citing unfair trade practices. The investigation covers a range of dairy products and subsidies under the EU's Common Agricultural Policy. This action follows the EU's decision to impose a surcharge on electric vehicles from China, including those made by Tesla, due to alleged market distortion by state subsidies. Beijing's move also comes after China's investigation into alleged competition law violations in imported wine spirits from the EU, and an ongoing anti-dumping investigation into pork and pork products from the EU.
