The Marine Management Organization (MMO) has decided to close English waters ICES area 7 for fishing crawfish in 2024, for both UK and EU vessels. The closure was the result of a consultation process, taking into account scientific evidence, socio-economic impacts, and relevant legislation and policy. The closure is aimed at protecting crawfish during their spawning season, supporting population growth, and limiting mortality risk, while also allowing time for the shellfish industry to adapt.
