The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Saudi Arabia is gearing up for the local watermelon production season, aiming to enhance food security and self-sufficiency across all regions. With watermelon being a nutritionally valuable crop, its production is crucial, especially with the upcoming Ramadan season boosting demand. The ministry's Sustainable Rural Development Program 'Reef' is set to improve production efficiency and cultivation rates. Remarkably, Saudi Arabia has achieved over 99% self-sufficiency in watermelon, producing more than 624 thousand tons annually across more than 23 thousand hectares, underscoring the country's commitment to bolstering its agricultural sector.
