Environmentalists deliver a petition against the expected Bulgarian support for the new GMOs

The Bulgarian government has changed course and opened the door to the introduction of new genetically modified organisms (GMOs) into the European Union. This was reported in a media statement by expert Svetla Nikolova from the association "Agrolink," citing sources from Brussels that claim the country has decided to change its vote from "abstention" to "supporting" the proposal to deregulate new genetic engineering. Therefore, on November 26, at 12:30 p.m. in front of the Ministry of Agriculture, part of a European petition with the signatures of 44 thousand Bulgarians will be handed over, who insist on a public explanation for the change in Bulgaria's position on new GMOs. Another 700 citizens have joined the National Network for the Protection of Plant Heritage, so "Agrolink" asks why the government is making a decision in the opposite direction – without explanation, without consultations, and contrary to the long-standing national position.
