[Son Min-jeong, Korea Farmers and Fishermen Newspaper] Calls are mounting this year to legislate the Food Basic Act in light of the situation where food policies are being driven by individual ministries without unified legal grounds. There is criticism that the gap in the guarantee of basic rights is deepening according to local government financial capacity and the will of local leaders. The 'National Diet Discussion Meeting for the Enactment of the Food Basic Act to Guarantee Food for the People by the People's Sovereignty Government' was held on the 30th at the 3rd Conference Room of the National Assembly Building. This discussion meeting was jointly hosted by Democratic Party of Korea members Lee Won-taek and Shin Jang-sik, Justice Party member Jeon Jong-deok, and organized by the National Food Alliance. The Food Basic Act is intended to guarantee the minimum food for the people.
