The European Commission anticipates a significant increase in the cultivation of sunflowers and oilseeds due to favorable conditions and temporary exemptions. Sunflower cultivation is expected to rise by 10% to 4.8 million hectares, at the expense of grain maize, leading to an 18% increase in harvest compared to 2022. Rapeseed production is projected to increase by 1% to 19.8 million tons, and soybean cultivation is expected to rise to 1 million hectares. This results in a new record of 33.6 million tonnes of oilseed production, which is expected to reduce imports of oilseed oil and meal and increase self-sufficiency in the EU.
