The Turkish Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters' Assembly (TIM) reported a 17% increase in aquatic product exports in February 2021, totaling $99 million, compared to the same period the previous year. The top five countries for these exports were Russia, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, and the UK. Sea bass was the most exported product, followed by sea bream and trout. In 2020, Turkey's fisheries exports reached $1.53 billion. TIM aims to increase this figure to $1.15 billion in 2021, despite challenges such as the prolonged process for obtaining export permits to Russia, which cost the industry around $100 million in losses in 2020.
