The agricultural self-government from Greater Poland is requesting the addition of another atmospheric phenomenon in the crop insurance law—this time it concerns autumn frosts. In this region, they have caused significant losses among farmers. "From October 1-3, autumn frosts occurred in the Pleszew County. Negative temperatures caused losses mainly in the cultivation of ground tomatoes, which were in full vegetation. Plantations of this vegetable, mainly located in the Czermin commune, suffered losses of up to 100 percent due to freezing," indicates the Greater Poland Agricultural Chamber (WIR) in its news service. As it adds, the committees estimating agricultural damages, appointed by the voivode, despite starting to estimate the damages, unfortunately could not prepare protocols regarding the losses caused by this adverse atmospheric phenomenon, as the Act on the insurance of agricultural crops and farm animals does not include the variant of "autumn frosts."
