Expectations soar for new growth from Tran De Coastal Economic Zone

The Trần Đề Coastal Economic Zone (in Cần Thơ City) has been identified as one of the key projects aimed at developing the maritime economy in the Mekong Delta. The driving force is the Trần Đề Deepwater Port (referred to as Trần Đề Seaport) which is planned to be located right at the mouth of the Hậu River, holding a strategic position for the development of regional logistics infrastructure. According to Ms. Trần Thị Lan Phương, a representative of Tân Cảng Sài Gòn Joint Stock Company: If implemented, Trần Đề Seaport can solve a major logistics problem for the Western region. Currently, about 80% of the Mekong Delta's export goods must be transported by road to the port cluster in Ho Chi Minh City – Cai Mep, incurring costs of about 170 USD per container (equivalent to 7-10 USD per ton).
