The International Cocoa Organization has reported a significant 11% decrease in global cocoa bean production for 2023-2024, marking the third year of market deficit. The deficit is projected to hit 375,000 tons by September 2024, a stark increase from 74,000 tons the previous year. This decline is due to crop losses in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, caused by natural conditions and tree diseases. Consequently, cocoa bean prices have surged by nearly 50% in 2024.
