The Kirov region has exported 67 tons of birch chaga to Latvia and Korea since the start of 2022, with all shipments passing quarantine phytosanitary control. The region has issued 5 phytosanitary certificates for the exports this year. Chaga, a fungus parasitizing on birch, is harvested for its therapeutic and prophylactic properties and is demand abroad as a food additive. It is rich in compounds like betulinic acid, antioxidants, and polysaccharides, and is shown to help slow down and kill cancer cells, improve liver, heart, and intestinal conditions, and fight viral diseases.
