The Mexican beef industry is experiencing a surge in exports, reaching a value of 2,242 million dollars despite the pandemic, and ranking third in agricultural sales behind beer and avocado. However, this growth does not benefit most small and medium farmers. The trade balance for cattle and live cattle exports shows a surplus of 1.99 billion dollars due to higher exports and lower imports. Oswaldo Cházaro Montalvo, president of the National Confederation of Livestock Organizations (CNOG), is calling for the inclusion of small and medium-sized livestock farmers in welfare programs and the activation of the Livestock Credit Program. He also stresses the need for regulatory frameworks and public policies to encourage production and include small farmers. The industry's health status and traceability are also highlighted as strengths.
