From January to August 8, 2021, Russia experienced a significant increase in the export of milk and dairy products, with a 59% rise compared to the same period in the previous year, totaling 122.5 thousand tons. The primary exporters were Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Uzbekistan. The increase was largely due to higher exports of milk whey and ice cream. Despite this, the import of milk and dairy products into Russia decreased by 9%. High demand for Russian dairy products, particularly whey, is expected to persist, and there has been a notable growth in exports to non-CIS countries, with China being the main buyer. Large dairy companies like EkoNiva and Molvest have also reported a surge in export deliveries, with EkoNiva exporting UHT milk to China six times more than the previous period and Molvest increasing its first-half export volumes.
