In the Chinese market, Russian crabs are the main competitors to those from the United States and Canada, holding 27%-28% of the market share. In the first quarter, Russia supplied 8,400 tons of crabs to China, marking a 12.8% year-on-year increase, valued at $309.5 million. China, the world's largest crab consumer, purchased 30,200 tons in the same period, a 16.5% increase year-on-year, valued at $558.7 million. The recovery of China's catering and tourism industries has boosted live crab consumption, and demand for frozen ready-to-eat seafood is also rising. The FAO predicts China will remain the main consumer market for all types of crabs. In 2023, Russia caught 92,500 tons of crabs, with over 40,000 tons worth more than $1 billion shipped to China.
