The FAO has revised down its forecast for global wheat production in 2024/2025 from the previous month, now projecting it to be 791 million tons, a slight increase from the previous year but with a decrease of 4% from the previous season. This is due to reduced planting in the EU and dry conditions in Russia. However, improved weather in March and early April may mitigate some of the yield losses. The organization also notes a decrease in Ukraine's wheat production due to the war. In contrast, the FAO has increased its forecast for global cereal production in 2023/2024 to 2,846 million tons, a 1.2% increase from the previous year, largely due to revisions in historical production figures in Myanmar and official estimates in Pakistan.
