Romania is encouraging its farmers to cultivate garlic this year due to the high import dependency on the product, with the government offering a subsidy of 3,000 euros per hectare for farmers who plant at least 3 hectares. The total budget for the subsidy has been increased from 15 to 22 million lei. The garlic is widely used in Romanian cuisine, particularly in coastal areas. The cost of cultivating and harvesting one hectare of garlic is around 2,400 euros, and the profit can reach about 85,500 lei per hectare. Buzau County was the leading garlic producer in Romania in 2021.
