Rob Galey, along with 20 workers, has started picking the first strawberries of the season at his farm, which weigh 500 pounds. The quality of the strawberries is exceptional due to the good spring weather, with high sugar levels and large blossoms indicating large berries. However, ripening has slowed down due to cooler weather. The farm also plans to harvest carrots, beets, nugget potatoes, and corn. Another farm has also started picking strawberries. The annual Strawberry Festival is set for July 7, and for more information on producing and where to find locally grown food, visit islandfarmfresh.com.
