The article highlights a significant decrease in the delivery of wet animal feed in the Netherlands, dropping below 5 million tons for the first time since 2008. This decline is primarily attributed to a reduced harvest due to a dry summer, leading to lower quantities of potatoes and beets available for processing. The sales of moisture-rich feed materials, which account for 90% of wet animal feed, experienced a decrease, particularly in potato products and dairy by-products. Both pig and cattle farming sectors were impacted, with pig farming seeing a slight decrease in moisture-rich feed sales, while cattle farming experienced a significant 17% drop. Despite these challenges, the Consultation Group on Producers of Wet Animal Feed (OPNV) remains optimistic, advocating for the importance of moisture-rich feed in livestock diets and representing the interests of producers.
