Brazilian fish farming exports experienced a significant increase in the first quarter of 2024, with a 48% rise in value and a 20% rise in weight compared to the same period in 2023, reaching a record high of US$ 8.73 million. The majority of the exports, 95%, were tilapia, mainly to the United States. Other states like Paraná, São Paulo, and Bahia were the leading exporters. The quarterly Fish Farming Foreign Trade Newsletter by Embrapa Pesca e Aquicultura and Peixe BR highlights the growth in the sector and the professionalization of the fish farming chain. There is anticipation for further growth in exports of other farmed fish, such as tambaqui, in the coming months of 2024.
