The forecasted fish catch in Russia by the end of 2024 is now estimated to be around 4.92-4.93 million tons, marking a slight decrease from the initial prediction of 5 million tons, according to Ilya Shestakov, the head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries. This reduction is primarily due to a disappointing salmon run, despite the successful catch of pollock, sardine Iwashi, and herring this year. Shestakov reassures that Russia will still be able to meet its domestic demand for fish products.
