Russia's fish exports are projected to increase by 2% in 2023, reaching a value of $6 billion, up from $5.9 billion in the previous year, according to the All-Russian Association of Fisheries Industry (VARPE). This growth is attributed to higher total allowable catches in the Sea of Okhotsk and successful seasons for pollock and crab. The main markets for Russian fish products include China for pollock, the EU for pollock fillets, and Japan and South Korea for pollock roe. The EAEU market for fish products is expected to grow from 2.3 million tons to 3 million tons in the next five years. VARPE suggests revisiting customs legislation to better regulate catches in foreign economic zones and areas of international agreement to further enhance the benefits of fish production.
