In Egypt, the majority of fish production, accounting for 79.7%, comes from fish farms, with lakes and marine waters contributing 10.8% and 4.9% respectively. The country's aquaculture is diverse, featuring species like tilapia and mullet, and sees variations in fish prices across different regions. Egypt has reached 85% self-sufficiency in fish production, with an annual consumption rate of 18 kilograms per capita and exports amounting to 35 thousand tons in 2019. Out of the 2 million tons of fish produced annually, 1.6 million tons are from aquaculture. The government is focused on increasing export rates and enhancing the country's fish wealth by developing its lakes.
