Egypt's fish production is divided into 1.6 million tons from fish farming, 400 thousand tons from capture fisheries in lakes, Bahrain, and the Nile, and 102 tons from Al-Diba shrimp farm. The primary source of fish production is fish farms at 79.7%. The country achieves 85% self-sufficiency in fish production with tilapia and mullet prices ranging from 75 to 90 pounds and 125 to 165 pounds, respectively. Wholesale prices in the Obour market for tilapia, eel, mullet, bream, crab, and squid range from 61 to 68 pounds, 50 to 350 pounds, 75 to 140 pounds, 100 to 260 pounds, 40 to 240 pounds, and 180 to 400 pounds, respectively. The government is working to increase shrimp exports and develop lakes to increase fish wealth.
