The Chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) Sectors Council and Deputy Chairman of the Istanbul Fisheries and Animal Products Exporters' Association (İSHİB), Ahmet Tuncay Sagun, has announced that the end of the fishing ban on September 1 is expected to bring an abundant fish population, particularly anchovy and gypsophila, in the Turkish seas. This is causing excitement among fishermen after a season marred by concerns over mucilage in the Marmara Sea and fishing restrictions. Sagun emphasized the importance of sustainable hunting and the development of animal protein sources, highlighting the benefits of aquaculture. He also noted that fishery product exports have seen a 39.5% increase in the first seven months of the year, reaching $763.6 million, and stressed the need to increase domestic fish consumption to support health, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
