Russia: Fishermen in Chukotka caught over 302 tons of salmon in the 2024 season

The salmon fishing season has ended in Chukotka, with fishermen in the district catching over 302 tons of salmon. This was reported by the press service of the district government. "The total catch volume this year was 302.4 tons, which is 90.7% of the allocated volumes. Of this volume, 235 tons of sockeye salmon, over 63 tons of chum salmon and only 3.7 tons of pink salmon were caught," the report says. It is specified that in 2024, the volumes of possible Pacific salmon catch for the district were set at 1,000 tons, which is six times less than the same figure for 2022. As part of traditional fishing, communities of indigenous peoples of the North caught more than 9.5 tons, which is 64% of the allocated volume.
