Iran has seen a significant increase in the value and weight of its fishery exports in the first quarter of the current Iranian calendar year, with a 30% rise compared to the same period last year. The country exported 73,369 tons of fishery products worth $121.4 million, a 40% increase in weight year on year. The United Arab Emirates, China, and Russia were the primary markets for these exports. Despite a decrease in shrimp export value, fisheries still contributed less than 70% to Iran's total exports. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization recognizes Iran as a model in fishing and aquaculture due to its growth in these industries, which has been supported by research, young specialists, and advancements in technology like nanobubble generators. These generators improve water quality, increase fish population, and reduce electricity consumption by 70%. A collaboration between 12 companies aims to create a value chain for caged fish farming in the Caspian Sea region, with a production capacity of 1,500 tons of fish, and a project aims to double the number of breeding pools to increase fishery production.
