Fishing Households and Population Declining, Becoming Smaller

In 2024, the number of fishing village households and residents decreased compared to the previous year, with single and two-person households accounting for 95%, showing a clear trend of smaller household sizes. According to the 'Statistical Results of Fishing Village Residents in 2024' recently released by Statistics Korea, fishing village households decreased to 555 households, down 161 households (22.5%) from the previous year (716 households), and fishing village residents declined to 585 people, a decrease of 165 people (22.0%) from the previous year (750 people). The average number of household members in fishing village households was 1.28, slightly increasing from 1.26 in the previous year. Household types showed that single-person households comprised 79.1% (439 households) and two-person households 16.2% (90 households), together accounting for 95% of the total.
