The Union of Chambers of Agriculture of Turkey (TZOB) chairman, Şemsi Bayraktar, reported significant price fluctuations for agricultural products in June. The price gap between producers and the market reached a high of 341.18 percent for berries and 297.56 percent for onions. The highest price increase was in chickpeas at 9.8 percent, while watermelon saw the largest decrease at 72.97 percent. The reduction in prices for several produce was due to increased harvest, while the price hike in lentils was attributed to drought. Bayraktar emphasized the impact of drought on cereals and legumes, predicting significant production drops in barley, wheat, and red lentils. He also called for the government to introduce a second drought aid package to address the growing crisis. Additionally, he highlighted the increased costs for producers in the red meat sector and suggested the Meat and Milk Authority should intervene to stabilize the market.
