The Ministry of Agriculture in Indonesia is spearheading a food diversification initiative to secure local wisdom and focus on a primary commodity in each province. The project will utilize six non-rice carbohydrate sources: cassava, corn, sago, banana, potato, and sorghum. The ministry aims to improve the market perception of local foods and boost productivity to support the country's 267 million people. The strategy also includes a target to reduce national rice consumption by 7% within five years. This initiative is in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and potential droughts, with the goal of providing alternative foods, stimulating the economy, and promoting healthy living.
