China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) has published guidelines urging consumers to be cautious when buying sesame oil, advising them to check food labels for authenticity and avoid purchases from doubtful sources. The guidelines also suggest that consumers should look out for specific color and smell characteristics to identify pure sesame oil. In addition, SAMR has issued a statement cautioning consumers about the safety of edible oils, advising them to limit their daily intake and avoid deep frying due to potential health risks and nutrient loss. This comes in the wake of concerns over oil adulteration, with over 2,300 toxic food crimes reported in China and India banning the sale of blended mustard oils to prevent adulteration.
