From October 2020 to May 2021, Russia saw a significant increase in agricultural exports to the European Union (EU), with a 32% rise in value reaching $2.4 billion and a 2.9% increase in volume to 4.2 million tons. The Netherlands, Latvia, and Germany were the top buyers, with the Netherlands experiencing a 30% increase in purchases primarily of fish and seafood. The EU exported cheeses, cottage cheese, wine, pork, bakery and flour confectionery, animal feed, coffee, and chocolate, while experiencing growth in imports of vegetable oils, soybeans, fruits, and berries. OECD projections forecast a continued growth in EU imports of corn, meat, fish, and seafood by 2030.
