French beef production is projected to decrease by 1.6 percent in 2023, totaling about 1.34 million tonnes, marking the third consecutive year of decline. The decrease is primarily due to a reduction in the number of cows. The production of male cattle and veal is also expected to decrease by 1.0 percent and 2.5 percent, respectively. Despite the decrease in production, domestic beef consumption is predicted to barely fall by 0.5 percent. As production is anticipated to decline faster than consumption, beef imports are expected to rise by 2.5 percent, while exports are predicted to drop by 1.8 percent.
