Spanish imports of fresh fruit and vegetables have experienced a significant increase, with a 12% rise in value reaching 4.087 billion euros from January to October this year. The volume of imports also grew by 6.5%, amounting to 3.6 million tons. Vegetables were the main contributor to this growth, seeing a 17% increase in both volume and value, with potatoes being the most imported vegetable. Despite a decrease in volume, fruit imports experienced a 10% increase in value. Bananas and avocados were the most imported fruits, showing increases in both quantity and value. However, oranges saw significant declines in both volume and value. This trend indicates a diversification in purchases towards products of added value, although challenges in categories like oranges could pose issues.
