In the first half of 2024, Spain's fruit and vegetable imports saw a slowdown with a 0.9% increase in volume, totaling 2,201,819 tonnes, much lower than the 14.09% increase in the same period in 2023. Despite the slower volume growth, the value of imports rose by 9.58%, reaching 2,576 million euros. Vegetable imports increased by 8% in volume, contributing an economic value of 846 million euros, with potatoes being the main product. On the other hand, fruit imports decreased by 5.18% in volume, but their economic value also grew by 9.58%, reaching 2,576 million euros. Notable reductions were seen in citrus fruits, apples, watermelon, and mangoes, attributed to both shifts in domestic consumption and significant price hikes for imported goods, which on average increased by 8.6%.
