A recent survey conducted by the Italian Telematic Commodity Exchange (BMTI) and Italmercati, as of 18 October 2021, provides an overview of the prices of various fruits and vegetables at wholesale markets in Italy, including Milan, Bologna, Padua, and Rome. The report indicates fluctuations in prices for different produce due to factors such as demand, product availability, and crop issues.
High demand and good product availability have led to increased persimmon prices, which are higher than the average for the period. Carrot prices remain stable, but are above the average due to lower product availability. Chestnut prices are increasing as the campaign comes to an end, with a growing supply of different sizes. The demand for broccoli is also increasing with the onset of autumn, along with its quality level.
Chicory prices are slightly decreasing due to increased supply, with the first batches of puntarelle in the Rome market, which is in high demand, particularly by the Horeca sector of Lazio. The pear campaign is marked by limited availability due to crop problems, leading to high prices, especially for the abate and decana varieties. Radicchio prices are decreasing due to the arrival of large quantities from various growing areas.
The end of the victory white grape campaign is noted, with good availability and demand for Italian grapes, although there is a shift in demand towards white varieties. The demand for pumpkins is increasing with the drop in temperatures, while the availability of courgettes is lower due to cultivation difficulties, although prices remain lower than the previous year.
