Between January and May 2024, fruit exports reached a value of USD 5,098 million FOB, with 1.8 million tons, marking an 8.8% increase in value and a 4.7% increase in quantity. Cherries were the leading fruit in both value and volume, followed by grapes, blueberries, plums, and apples. The main export destinations were China, the US, the Netherlands, and Brazil. Fresh fruit accounted for 85.5% of the export value, with China being the main destination for most categories, including cherries and grapes. Processed fruit made up 12.1% of the export value, with a notable increase in shipments of frozen and dehydrated fruits. Nut exports experienced a significant decrease, with walnuts, hazelnuts, and almonds showing declines in both value and volume. Meanwhile, fruit imports reached 229.7 thousand tons, a 13.3% increase, with a value of USD 260.6 million CIF, primarily from Peru, Ecuador, and the US. The imports included fresh fruit, primarily avocados, and canned goods like peaches and olives.
