The article highlights the discussion on food irradiation at the Seminar promoted by the Brazilian Society for Radiological Protection, with support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply. The event aimed to extend the durability of food, reduce waste, and expand the export market. Fruits and meat products were identified as the main interests. Globally, 186 irradiation centers are located in 47 countries, and the consumption of irradiated food is allowed in 60 countries. Brazil is developing a State policy to adopt food irradiation. The article also emphasizes the safety of the process and the potential benefits for Brazil's agricultural sector.
