The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has initiated the Protecting Livestock Grant Program, providing one-time grants of up to $10,000 to aid farmers and ranchers in safeguarding their livestock from diseases and other risks. The grants will support the purchase and installation of supplies or equipment not covered by existing depredation programs. Priority will be given to farmed elk and deer, poultry, and ratites producers due to new fencing requirements and the threat of highly pathogenic avian influenza. The program has a total fund of $500,000 and is accepting applications until March 7.
