[Korea Farmers and Fishermen Newspaper] There are growing calls for Seoul Metropolitan Agricultural Products Marketing Corporation to re-examine its policy of mandating pallet loading for watermelon shipments to Gangseo Wholesale Market. The distribution costs do not decrease, and instead of benefiting producers or consumers, the policy actually increases logistics costs, burdens shippers, and negatively impacts consumer prices. For the Gangseo Market, starting April 1 this year, the policy of fully implementing pallet shipments of watermelons was enacted under the pretext of improving the logistics system. However, distribution industry insiders complain that while this administrative measure appears to be a necessary policy for improving logistics efficiency, it is not the case in reality.
